Nikoloz Samkharadze, the chair of the Georgian parliament's foreign affairs committee, and members of the Georgian delegation on Friday participated in a joint sitting of the foreign relations and defence committees of the parliament of Luxembourg.

Samkharadze introduced foreign policy priorities of Georgia, overviewed challenges in the wider Black Sea region, the impact of the Russian aggression in Ukraine on the security architecture of Europe and the “grave situation” on the Russian-occupied territories of Georgia.

The parliamentarians of both countries discussed the capacity to “further enhance” bilateral relations, including at the parliamentary level, and agreed on the intensification of cooperation based on the “high” potential of developing bilateral links.

Samkharadze provided detailed information on the fulfilment of the European Union conditions by the Georgian parliament to the Luxembourger lawmakers, while the latter reaffirmed their “intact and unwavering” support of their country to the territorial integrity and EU and NATO aspirations of Georgia.

The Luxembourger MPs gave a positive assessment to the efforts of the Georgian parliament in fulfilling the EU recommendations, as well as to recent reforms and progress in the country. I believe our visit will positively affect their decision to support the granting of EU candidate status to Georgia”, Samkharadze said.
