Rati Ionatamishvili, an MP of the ruling Georgian Dream party and the deputy chair of the parliament’s legal affairs committee, on Wednesday said the opposition United National Movement was “constantly trying to damage” the image of the country.
Ionatamishvili noted the largest domestic opposition party was fighting “not against the ruling party, but, in fact, against the country”.
They create fake news, then rely on that fake news as the source and want to create perceptions. They are trying to harm our country's growing economy, our country's growing development and the well-being of our citizens”, Ionatamishvili said.
“This is a hostile campaign against our country, and we are certainly not surprised to see it coming from such a stateless people. They cannot affect the development and progress of our country”, he concluded in his comments.
Gia Volski, a ruling party MP and the vice speaker of the Georgian parliament, on Thursday said the “main task” of the domestic opposition was to ensure the “destabilisation” of the political environment in the country, after a section of the opposition boycotted a parliament bill proposed for fulfilling European Union-outlined priorities for Georgia.
