Georgian deputy economy minister promotes energy sector at Abu Dhabi conference

Georgian deputy economy minister Romeo Mikautadze joined global energy leaders, policymakers and industry professionals at the ongoing Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference and spoke about the current trends in the Georgian energy sector, the ministry of economy announced on Thursday.

The state body said Mikautadze had promoted the "favourable investment environment" in the sector and became involved in a panel on opportunities of transporting Caspian energy resources to Europe. He noted the current transmission infrastructure supplying hydrocarbons produced in the Caspian region to the European Union market. 

The deputy minister said that the development of the energy sector of Georgia was related to the increased use of renewable energy sources, development of electricity transmission infrastructure and transportation of energy received in the South Caucasus to Europe.

Georgia is working with partner states on the project of an electric transmission line on the bottom of the Black Sea that would make the energy system of the South Caucasus a part of the EU network, the official also told participants.
