Irakli Kadagishvili, the chair of the Georgian parliament's rules and procedural issues committee, on Wednesday said the domestic opposition was “very confused” about steps it should take on the backdrop of political development in the country in its European Union integration process.

In his remarks over the matter, Kadagishvili said the opposition was “trying to outline new contours” for their focus in messaging, but could not reach a consensus “on any issue”.

“They are trying, in some way, to outline new contours, but we can see that the opposition consensus cannot be reached on any issue, because they failed to deal with the main issue”, he noted.

The main issue would be if the opposition said they are united to do their best to fulfil the EU conditions [for granting the country the membership candidate status]”, the parliament official explained.

Kadagishvili added the hypothetical scenario of opposition forces agreeing over support for facilitation of EU conditions for the country’s membership status would lead to the parties being “really consolidated and it would have a completely different face”.

However, he added the “policy of sabotage” of the country’s European integration process had led the opposition to a point where “they cannot agree exactly who should be the main consumer of [their] sabotage”.
