Georgian economy minister Levan Davitashvili on Tuesday said his government could sign a comprehensive economic cooperation agreement with the United Arab Emirates early next year in a bid to strengthen bilateral trade.

The ministry of economy quoted Davitashvili on comments made during his visit to the UAE, as part of a Georgian government delegation led by PM Irakli Garibashvili.

"We completed the first round of negotiations very successfully in September, with the talks involving the signing of an agreement on comprehensive economic cooperation between the two countries.”, the minister said.

“As our colleagues have confirmed, at the beginning of next year, once the second round of negotiations are completed, it will be possible to sign this agreement between the countries and facilitate bilateral trade", he added.

Davitashvili also noted the deal would promote Emirati investments in Georgia, which he said was “very important” for the Georgian economy.
