Anri Okhanashvili, the chair of the Georgian parliament's legal affairs committee from the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Wednesday said the domestic “radical opposition” groups “must explain to the public” and Georgia’s partners “why they have sabotaged” the implementation of the European Union’s conditions for granting the country the membership candidate status.

Radical opposition groups, who have unfortunately chosen the path of destruction, must explain to our public and [international] partners why they have sabotaged the 12-point plan [outlined by the European Union]”, the parliament official said.

In his remarks over the matter, Okhanashvili stressed the opposition groups needed to explain their refusal to become involved in the parliamentary working groups for the implementation of the conditions.

On June 24, the European Council granted the membership candidate status to Ukraine and Moldova, and said it would be ready to grant the same status to Georgia once the outstanding priorities outlined by the European Commission would be addressed by the Georgian government.
