Thea Tsulukiani, the vice prime minister and Georgian minister of culture, on Wednesday said the government’s initiative to introduce e-voting starting with the next scheduled elections would put an end to the “false rhetoric” of alleged election malpractice from the opposition and “once again show the real face” of the latter.

Tsulukiani was commenting on the ruling team’s decision on a widespread introduction of an electronic voter registration and voting system starting with the 2024 parliamentary elections in the country.

This is an initiative that pleases me the most, and I welcome it. We are a country that is advanced in new technologies not only in the region, but throughout Europe. Our state agencies have the technical and technological capability - if there is an appropriate legal provision and legislative reform - to conduct electronic elections in our country”, Tsulukiani said.

In her remarks over the matter, Tsulukiani also stressed the initiative of the ruling Georgian Dream party was a “very big step forward”.

This will once and for all put an end to the false rhetoric of alleged election malpractice by the central election commission [and] show the real face of our opponents who have been lying that the will of the people was not reflected properly [in the previous election]”, she concluded.
