Ruling party Chair: any demand of snap Parliamentary elections “completely irrelevant”

Kobakhidze also said domestic opposition had held “several attempts to unsettle the situation in the country”, but added all of them had “failed”, which was “leading to a disillusionment within the ranks of their party”, in reference to the UNM. Photo: Georgian Dream Press Office.

Irakli Kobakhidze, the Chair of the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Monday said “any demand” of snap Parliamentary elections being held in the country was “completely irrelevant”.

Kobakhidze was responding to a statement by Nika Melia, the Chair of the opposition United National Movement party, who earlier on Monday said there was a “severe political crisis” in the country.

In his response, the ruling party Chair said “the worst political crisis is not in the country, but in the radical opposition, and added “any action” announced by domestic opposition forces was “absolutely doomed to failure”.

Kobakhidze also said domestic opposition had held “several attempts to unsettle the situation in the country”, but added all of them had “failed”, which was “leading to a disillusionment within the ranks of their party”, in reference to the UNM.
