Ruling party MP: transparency, inclusiveness ensured in work on EU membership conditions

Tamar Taliashvili, an MP for the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Thursday said the Parliamentary work on the 12-point conditions outlined by the EU for granting the country the membership candidate status was proceeding according to plan, with the principles of “openness, transparency and inclusiveness” ensured.
Taliashvili noted the work on the matter in the legislative body was conducted “actively” and the ruling team, together with the “constructive part” of the domestic opposition, had already held more than 30 working group meetings.
The work related to the 12-point plan of the European Union is being carried out according to plan, [and] the principles of openness, transparency and inclusiveness are ensured. This is the manner in which more than 30 meetings have been held”, she said.
Taliashvili also called on the “radical group” of the domestic opposition to “stop the practice of polarisation and artificial isolation” from the process.
Julien Crampes, the Acting Head of the European Union Delegation to Georgia, on Thursday called for inclusiveness and involvement of opposition parties and civil society in the Parliamentary work on the EU conditions.
Crampes noted the EU Delegation would monitor the process in the Georgian Parliament and continue “high-level meetings” with all stakeholders from the ruling party and the opposition, as well as civil society representatives.

In bilateral relations between Georgia and the European Union, the country will have “specific, tangible results very soon”, Georgian Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili said on Sunday, while commenting on the annual Association Agreement Implementation Report of the EU.
The European Union published its annual Association Implementation Report on Georgia on Friday. The report has reviewed Georgia’s implementation of reforms under the EU-Georgia Association Agreement over the past year.
Tamar Taliashvili, an MP for the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Wednesday said the domestic “radical opposition” had “no interest” in being a constructive player in taking part in the fulfilment of the 12-point conditions established by the European Union for granting the country the membership candidate status later this year.
Givi Mikanadze, an MP for the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Friday said it was “difficult to talk about" national consensus when leaders of the domestic "radical opposition" were announcing rallies and "trying to radicalise the political environment" in the country.
Levan Ioseliani, an opposition MP from the Citizens party, said on Tuesday that small, “radical” opposition parties were waiting for the dissolution of the largest domestic opposition group, the United National Movement, to “take advantage” of the process and “win UNM voters”, in comments on plans of the Girchi - More Freedom and other opposition parties to start holding rallies against the Government starting next month.
Claire Bazy Malaurie, the newly appointed Head of the Venice Commission of the Council of Europe, on Friday expressed readiness to further strengthen cooperation with Georgia and praised the country’s “active communication” with the body to meet the European Union’s 12-point conditions for obtaining the bloc’s membership candidate status.
