Khatuna Samnidze, an opposition MP and the Chair of the Republican Party, on Thursday said it was “wrong” on the part of a section of the opposition to reject election campaigning by claiming the Georgian Dream Government would not let itself be replaced through voting.
Samnidze was commenting on the statement of Zurab Girchi Japaridze, the leader of the Girchi - More Freedom opposition party, who earlier today said the domestic opposition was “capable of doing a lot”, including storming of Government institutions.
In her comment over the matter, Samnidze stressed the current Georgian Government would step down from power through elections.
"Protests are a constitutional form of expression, just like rallies - we have seen this many times in our country. Citizens have the right to protest, take part in rallies and this is a normal process”, she noted.
It is wrong to say that this Government will not be replaced through elections and that [therefore] we don't need elections. I will never agree with that - this Government will go through elections, through maximum participation of our citizens in elections”, Samnidze said in her reaction.
