Georgian channel Mtavari Arkhi on Wednesday said it had suspended the contract with its host Lasha Nakaidze after the journalist was arrested on charges of domestic violence, rape and threats following an incident on Monday.
In its comments, the channel administration said it distanced itself “from any type of violence, especially those perpetrated by a man on a woman, which is not justified under any circumstances”.
Providing no additional details, the channel said it could “reconsider” its position over Nakaidze if the latter was found innocent by the court.
According to media reports, a woman with injuries had called police for help before being provided with necessary medical aid and interviewed about the incident. However, Mtavari Arkhi said in a statement that its another employee notified the police about the incident on Monday.
No further details have been revealed over the matter.
