Improving hazardous and plastic waste management are among four new strategic objectives of the 2016-2030 National Waste Management Strategy and Action Plan, the Environment Ministry announced on Monday.
Creation and implementation of biodegradable waste collection and treatment systems and improvement of inert, construction and demolition waste management are also part of the change, in addition to nine already existing strategic objectives.
Aiming to define waste management policy and goals at the national level for a 15-year period, the state strategy also seeks to provide the “best international experience” in the process of developing waste management in the country.
The ministry also pointed out the forming of new tasks had been based on the “new reality”, adding the new 2022-2026 National Action Plan was also being approved and covered full provision of municipal waste collection service for all settlements and implementation of the system of separate collection of municipal household waste.
Additionally, the new national plan seeks to establish new landfills and transfer stations in compliance with international standards and close old landfills, as well as promote plastic waste prevention and treatment measures.
