Georgia is ranked top among East European and Central Asian states in good governance, independence of the judiciary, and other metrics in the latest ranking of the Public Integrity Index, a ranking by the European Research Center for Anti-corruption and State-building.

Listed 32nd in the index, Georgia’s ranking places it second among former Soviet republics, only behind Estonia. This marks a change from the previous ranking in 2019, where the country was listed ahead of Baltic states, and ranked fourth among former Soviet republics.

The promotion of the country in the list has prompted Ilia Darchiashvili, the Head of the Administration of the Government, to say the country continued to achieve tangible results in international surveys and indexes

The Public Sector Integrity Index assesses the practice of good governance, the independence of the judiciary and the freedom of the press, the level of administrative burden, accountability and transparency.

The ranking has been produced every two years since its initiation by the European Anti-Corruption Center in 2015. The index is based on studies and reports by the United Nations, World Bank, World Economic Forum, other internationally recognised entities and global organisations.
