The Prosecution Service of Georgia has charged one individual with premeditated killing and hooliganism, while also charging seven others with hooliganism, provision of false information and failure to report the killing of a 20-year-old man in Georgia’s east on Thursday, the state body announced on Saturday.
The Service said its investigation had revealed a dispute breaking out between youngsters at their friend’s birthday celebration in eastern Georgian village of Tskhvarichamia, later escalating into a physical confrontation.
The opposing parties verbally and physically insulted each other, during which Mirian Kukava was stabbed in the chest and injuries led to his death before he was taken to the hospital.
The state body also said that several people witnessed the incident, but they did not report it to the law enforcement authorities, and later provided false information to the investigation.
The Service expressed its condolences to the family of Kukava and noted the body has been implementing “the strictest” criminal law policy for similar types of cases, stressing the importance of perpetrators being punished with the “full severity of the law”.
The court is discussing the extent of preventive measures for detainees today.
