Georgian Defence Ministry hosts newly appointed Deputy Commander of US Army in Europe and Africa

Major General Michael Wickman, the newly appointed Deputy Commander of the US Army in Europe and Africa, and Major General Giorgi Matiashvili, the Chief of the Georgian Defence Forces, on Thursday discussed the “fruitful cooperation” between the Georgian Defence Forces and the US Army’s regional command, the Georgian Defence Ministry said on Thursday.

Matiashvili congratulated the American General on his appointment to the new position and thanked him for  the “significant contribution” of the US to the development and transformation of the GDF.

The implemented and ongoing reforms in the Georgian Defence Forces were also in focus of the meeting.

The Ministry said Wickman would visit various structural units of the Georgian Defence Forces and get to know their work process.
