The Georgian Parliament is set to start the early work for fulfilling the 12-point outline established by the European Union for granting the country the membership candidate status, with relevant sessions of the lawmaking body scheduled on Thursday.

The first session in the work will be held by the Committee on Procedural Issues and Rules of the Parliament, the press office of Parliament said.

A Parliamentary working group will work on a bill on deoligarchisation - related to one of the points in the EU outline - while a monitoring group will be drawn up to promote reducing the polarisation of the political environment of the country.

The ruling Georgian Dream party on Friday presented its strategy for fulfilling the EU conditions, with Chairman Irakli Kobakhidze vowing the ruling team would ensure their fulfilment in “appropriate time and manner”.

The strategy involves a working group - featuring representatives of all Parliamentary parties and the civil sector - that will provide a “comprehensive assessment” of the implementation of the legislative body’s regulations in the field of Parliamentary supervision and prepare a legislative initiative to correct identified shortcomings.

Charles Michel, the President of the European Council, on Wednesday said the EU was ready to grant the membership candidate status to Georgia once the priorities outlined by the bloc are addressed.
