The Russian-flagged cargo ship that entered Georgia's Black Sea port of Batumi on Monday is not subject to international sanctions, the Georgian Revenue Service announced on Tuesday.

The Service said the vessel was loaded with transit cargo designated for Armenia, with the Maritime Transport Agency of Georgia and the Economy Ministry confirming international sanctions placed on Russia for its war in Ukraine did not apply either to the ship or its owner company following their screening.

The statement of the Service also said another Russian-flagged ship, positioned in the anchoring area of the port without cargo, was also free from “restrictions of any kind”, explaining the vessel had arrived from the Port of Damietta, Egypt and planned to export cargo via the Batumi harbour.

In its statement the Agency said it was “constantly checking” ships and ship owners for compliance with the sanctions together with the Maritime Transport Agency.
