The Choir of the Tbilisi Holy Trinity Cathedral is marking "historic" performances by taking to the floor of the revered Sistine Chapel in Vatican, with the choir's appearances also including a performance at the St. Peter's Basilica of the city state this week.

The first-ever appearance of the Choir at the famed Sistine Chapel on Sunday was widely celebrated by cultural institutions and officials in Georgia, while also being noted in the Italian-language media, with Georgia's Culture Ministry saying the country's internationally recognised polyphonic singing performances being hosted in the halls of the revered venues marked a "historic event".

The Choir's two performances, the latter following on Wednesday with a rendition of a version of the Latin Ave Maria prayer by Ilia II, the Catholicos Patriarch of the Georgian Orthodox Church, at St. Peter's Basilica.

Led by Svimon Jangulashvili, the Choir's performances have been hosted as part of a week of celebrations concluding the mass for the Feast of Peter and Paul in Vatican, and is also coincided with the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the city state and Georgia.

Beside the Ave Maria performance, the vocal performers of the Choir founded by Ilia II are also hosting the audiences in Vatican a series of religious hymns, and works from their own repertory.
