Dozens evacuated from flood in eastern Dusheti municipality

Rescuers of Georgia’s Emergency Management Service have evacuated dozens of people from Dusheti municipality in the country’s east, after the locality was hit by heavy rain and flooding on Sunday.

The Service said earlier on Monday locals of the villages of Roshka, Korsha, Barisakho and Chargali had been evacuated in efforts that included helicopters of the border police.

Heavy rain hit 18 villages in the municipality, causing landslides and damaging sections of roads and a central highway.  

Manana Narimanidze, the Mayor of Dusheti municipality, told local media outlet Netgazeti the central Zhinvali-Barisakho-Shatili road, connecting the villages of Georgia’s north-eastern mountainous Pshavi and Khevsureti regions, had been severely damaged by the rain.
