Kakha Kaladze, the Mayor of Tbilisi and the Secretary General of the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Monday pledged the Government would implement all recommendations of the European Commission on Georgia’s European Union bid.

Kaladze referred to the obligations of the Government for gaining EU membership candidate status, as outlined by the Commission in its recommendations before the country’s membership bid will be considered again.

Once the relevant recommendations are reflected in an official paper, the Georgian Government will comply with the conditions”, the GD official said.

Kaladze also welcomed the fact that the European prospective for Georgia had been recorded “for the first time in history” in an official EU document.

He also congratulated Ukraine and Moldova on obtaining membership candidate status.

Unfortunately, we know this was a political decision - European leaders have spoken openly about this. In the case of Ukraine, for example, the decision was made because of the ongoing war [with Russia]. However, I sincerely want to congratulate the Ukrainian and Moldovan people and wish them success”, Kaladze concluded in his comments.

The European Commission on Friday recommended to the Council that Georgia should be given the perspective to become a member of the European Union. The Commission recommended that Georgia be granted candidate status, once the certain priorities in different areas of the reform agenda will have been addressed.

The European Commission will monitor Georgia's progress to address these priorities and report on them by the end of 2022.
