Archil Talakvadze, the Vice Speaker of the Georgian Parliament, on Friday said he believed the country would see “even more important decisions on its European path in the near future”, following the European Commission recommendation on Georgia’s European Union membership bid.

Talakvadze made the comment following the Commission’s recommendation to grant “European prospective” to the country. He stressed Georgia “shares, supports and upholds” the “core values and principles common with Europe”, adding the state would “definitely” become a member of the “European family”.

It is very important that the European Union has already reflected and confirmed Georgia's European perspective in such a high-level document after we reflected Georgia's European and Euro-Atlantic aspirations - and the decision of our people to return to the European family - in the Georgian Constitution”, the Parliament official said.

He added the Government and the public would “continue to move forward” to the EU with “consistent reforms”.

Of course, Georgia shares, supports and upholds the core values and principles that we have in common with Europe, so I believe that in the near future we will see even more important decisions on Georgia's European path”, Talakvadze concluded.

The European Commission on Friday recommended the European Council to grant Georgia “European prospective” before assessing how the country meets a number of conditions for receiving the European Union membership candidate status.
