Georgia has received $258 million from international tourist visits in May 2022, which is 250.4 percent more compared to the same month of last year, the Georgian National Tourism Administration said on Friday.

Revenues from international tourism have also recovered by 95.6 percent compared to the pre-pandemic 2019, the GNTA said.

In the first five months of 2022, revenues from international tourism reached $840 million, which is a 374.5 percent increase year-on-year and 75.3 percent recovery from the pre-pandemic 2019 number.

Last month Georgia hosted 359,238 international travellers, posting a 49.7 percent recovery from the pre-pandemic 2019 figure and an increase of 228.5 percent year-on-year.

The number included 264,327 tourist visits - marking a 62.3 percent recovery for the same period of 2019 and a 173.9 percent increase compared to the same period of last year. 

In the first five months of 2022, international travellers made 1,180,034 visits in Georgia, an increase of 257.8 percent compared to the same period of last year and a 39.5 percent recovery compared to 2019.

During the same period, the number of tourist visits totalled 906,670, which is 213.8 percent increase year-on-year and 54.8 percent recovery compared to January-May 2019, the GNTA said.
