Major General Giorgi Matiashvili, the Chief of the Georgian Defence Forces, on Wednesday congratulated employees of the Military Police Department of the Ministry on their professional day and awarded those in service.

Matiashvili praised the role of Military Police in the country’s Defence Forces, the Ministry said, and presented service medals and certificates of appreciation.

Development of the Military Police has been one of the initiatives envisaged by the Substantial NATO-Georgia Package, with the Ministry saying relevant reforms had made the Department compatible with the alliance.

The MoD also said MP units had become capable of supporting the GDF’s manoeuvring units in both discipline-related objectives and combat tasks.
