Georgian Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili has extended his gratitude to “all supporters” of the country who contributed to the passing of the United Nations resolution on the status of internally displaced persons and refugees from the Russian-occupied Abkhazia and Tskhinvali (South Ossetia) regions on Wednesday.
Darchiashvili reacted to the passing of the resolution by the UN General Assembly on Twitter, noting it had been sponsored by 61 countries and supported by 95 states from various regions of the world.
UNGA once again passed the resolution co-sponsored by 61& supported by 95 countries, reaffirming the right of all IDPs & refugees& their descendants to return to their homes in Russia-occupied Abkhazia & Tskhinvali regions of????????. We thank all supporters of this humanitarian cause.

The resolution affirmed the right of IDPs from the two regions to return to their homes “in safety and dignity”, regardless of ethnicity, and also emphasised the need to respect and protect their property rights and reaffirmed the “unacceptability” of forced demographic changes
