Irakli Kobakhidze, the Chairman of the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Tuesday said Georgia had “unquestionably” deserved the European Union membership candidate status, pointing out the country was “ahead” of Ukraine and Moldova in “all parameters” in terms of EU integration.
Kobakhidze underlined the “fundamental” progress the country had experienced under the Georgian Dream Government.
We can go through all the parameters and see that we are ahead of both countries [Ukraine and Moldova]. The second point is the progress we have made since 2012, which is fundamental. These are the two main pillars: the progress in the country and the comparison with Ukraine and Moldova. Georgia has unquestionably deserved the European Union membership candidate status,” the GD official said.
On May 30, the Chairman of the ruling Georgian Dream party said the European Union had "no reason to reject" Georgia's application for membership, "especially" if it granted candidate status to Ukraine and Moldova.
