Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili on Monday said it was “important to show the world” that the country’s “European choice” was “unshakable,” and stressed “all political forces” in the country must be “united under this goal”.
In her speech at the conference New Security Architecture in Europe and its Impact on Georgia, Zourabichvili underlined the domestic confrontation “driven by political ambitions” was “against the interests” of the country.
[T]he important thing is to show the world that our choice to take further steps [on the European path] is unshakable. This means that under this goal all [political] forces must be united, not only through words but also through actions,” she told the conference.
The confrontation driven by political ambitions is not only against the interests of the country, but it ultimately hurts the credibility of these [political] parties as well,” the President noted.
She also stressed Russia's aggression in Ukraine had created a “new reality”, pointing out the conflict had “strengthened the awareness” that “Europeans themselves must take care of security and take more responsibility”.
No matter how this anachronistic war ends, the Ukrainians are already victorious: they have paid the highest price for their own country's independence and consolidated it,” Zourabichvili noted.
