Carl Hartzell, the European Union Ambassador to Georgia, on Thursday said he expected the European Commission to present its opinion on granting the EU membership candidate status to the Associated Trio countries of Georgia, Ukraine and Moldova in the next “two or three weeks”.

The Commission has been deliberating over Georgia’s formal application since the submission by the Government of the completed membership questionnaire of the country earlier this month.

Hartzell also congratulated the Georgian military on Independence Day of Georgia, saying they were not only serving the defence of the country but also protected “European values” globally in peacekeeping missions in Afghanistan, the African continent and elsewhere.
