Meat production in Georgia increased in the first quarter of the year to reach 16.7 tonnes, a 5.7 percent increase compared to the same period of 2021, the latest preliminary data of the Georgian National Statistics Office showed along with a decrease in milk production.

Geostat has made available figures from the quarter that showed milk production decrease to 112.2 litres, a 2.7 percent reduction year-on-year.

The number of cattle in Georgia has also decreased by 0.1 percent, of which the total number of sheep and goats decreased by 5.6 percent, pigs by 2.6 percent and birds by 9.2 percent. The number of cows stood at 468.000, equal to the corresponding figure of last year.

A total of 165.5 million eggs were produced during the reported period, a 3.4 percent reduction from compared to the same period of last year, Geostat announced.
