Challenges and opportunities for youth in Georgia were discussed in a conference organised by the Caucasus Environmental NGO Network within a European Union-funded project in Tbilisi on Monday.
Involving over 100 participants, the event was dedicated to the European Year of Youth, and aimed to discuss the current trends, challenges, and opportunities in the youth sector - in particular youth policy, entrepreneurship, employment, education and volunteering, the European Union in Georgia said.
In the format of panel discussions, the conference, held under the EU4 Youth - Social Entrepreneurship Ecosystem Development for Green Growth project, brought together local, national and international organisations active in the fields of youth, education, social entrepreneurship and green economy to discuss the main topics of youth sustainable development.
The conference was attended by the EU delegation in Georgia, local and international organisations, members of the government agencies, and “active youth” from different regions of Georgia.
Catalin Gherman, the Deputy Head of Cooperation of the EU Delegation in Georgia, said the conference sought to support young people to participate in initiating change both currently and in future initiatives.
In her remarks, Nana Janashia, the Executive Director of CENN, noted the “essential” role of active social participation of youth, calling them the “most progressive part” of the public.
The event also hosted an exhibition of photographic stories of young activists across Georgia, as well as a networking session with the aim of connecting youth with organisations.
