Social workers end strike, reach deal with employer

Georgian social workers have ended their strike after reaching an agreement with the Social Service Agency of the Ministry of Health to increase salaries and provide transportation.

Professional union Solidarity Network reported that social workers' salaries will increase by 40-60%, they will be provided with transportation, and their parental leaves will be fully paid.

A total of 390 Social Service Agency employees went on a strike demanding salary increase on January 17.

Health Minister Zurab Azarashvili responded to the protest, saying that the Social Service Agency would increase bothe the fixed wages and bonus systems for social workers in February.
