Ruling party head: Georgia reaffirms support for Ukraine in statements "but also through actions"

The Georgian Government reaffirms its support for Ukraine not only through statements but also through actions, Irakli Kobakhidze, the head of the ruling Georgian Dream party, said on Monday.
Kobakhidze said when it came to political and humanitarian support, the Georgian Government stood with Ukraine despite “wrong steps taken by the Ukrainian authorities.”
The head of the ruling Georgian Dream party took note of Georgia’s actions in support of Ukraine, namely its co-sponsoring of United Nations resolutions against Russia's invasion, support for the decision to expel Russia from the Council of Europe, and provision of humanitarian aid.
We reaffirm our support for Ukraine not only through statements but also through actions,” the GD official concluded in his comments.
Shalva Papuashvili, the Speaker of the Georgian Parliament, called the statement of the Main Intelligence Division of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine on Russia creating smuggling channels for sanctioned products using Georgian territory a “lie” and “unacceptable”.
Georgia is in full compliance with the financial sanctions imposed by the international community against Russia due to its invasion of Ukraine, Georgian Foreign Minister David Zalkaliani said on Thursday.
The United States Government is in close contact with Georgian counterparts and the latter have stood by the international community over Ukraine, Ned Price, the US State Department Spokesperson, said in response to a question over allegations of Russia smuggling sanctioned products using Georgian territory.
The statement of the Intelligence Service of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine on Russia creating smuggling channels for sanctioned products using Georgian territory is “unheard-of misinformation”, the Georgian Minister of Culture Thea Tsulukiani said on Tuesday.
Georgia has aligned with the European Union declaration condemning the atrocities committed by the Russian armed forces in a number of Ukrainian towns, including Bucha.
The declaration states that the Russian authorities are responsible for the committed atrocities and are subject to the international law of occupation.
Georgia, along with 92 other countries, has supported the suspension of Russia from the United Nations Human Rights Council on Thursday.
Russia’s suspension from the human rights body was decided at the UN General Assembly over reports of “gross and systematic violations and abuses of human rights” by Russian military forces in Ukraine.
The ruling Georgian Dream party has sued three opposition-minded channels - Mtavari Arkhi, TV Pirveli and Formula - for releasing a political ad in non-election period with “misleading and slanderous” content ahead of the June 24 pro-European rally organised by groups critical of the Government, the channels confirmed on Tuesday.
The United Nations General Assembly overwhelmingly passed on Thursday a resolution calling for protection of civilians amid the ongoing war in Ukraine, co-sponsored by 90 states including Georgia.
