Russian hacker Andrei Tyurin, who was extradited from Georgia to the United Stated in 2018, has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for involvement in mass network intrusions of US financial institutions, brokerage firms, news agencies and other American companies.
The United States Department of Justice reports that Tyurin used computer infrastructure located across five continents, which he controlled from his home in Moscow.
Tyurin earned over $19 million in profits from his hacking activities.
Andrei Tyurin, wanted by the US, fled to Georgia and was arrested by Georgian law enforcers in 2017.
Tyurin was extradited from Georgia to the United States in September 2018.
