New project helps Georgian farmers sell their produce at 25 stores in Tbilisi

The Georgian Retailers Association and the USAID Agriculture Programme have teamed up to support the sale of Georgian produce, announces the Georgian Retailers Association.
In about a month 25 stores in the capital city of Tbilisi will feature Georgian produce at special stands.
In addition, farmers will also be able to sell their produce online via the Extra.ge and Myshop.ge platforms.
At this stage 15 farmers are involved in the project, however the project is open for new farmers if they meet several criteria: they must offer non-perishable produce, must be a participant of any USAID programme and must comply with labeling norms.
Alcoholic beverages will not be placed at the stands.
Farmers who do not meet these criteria are able to sell their produce online only.
The goal of the project is to increase the awareness of Georgian produce among the local consumers.
Over 700 Georgian farmers participated in training programmes last year organised by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) with the support of the European Union (EU), under the ENPARD programme.
The European Union and the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation awarded grants amounting to three million GEL to Georgian farmers in 2020, with the next stage of grants worth 2.6 million GEL in the process of being delivered, an end-of-year release by the international bodies said on Tuesday.
Georgian platform AgroServ.Ge, which enables easy communication between agricultural service providers and the recipient of agricultural services is among the 16 winners of the European Young Innovators 2020.
The European Union (EU) and the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO) have assisted Georgian eco-migrant Giorgi Abuladze to expand his broccoli farm.
