Chairman of the United National Movement (UNM) Nika Melia, who has now officially lost the Tbilisi mayoral elections to the ruling Georgian Dream’s (GD) Kakha Kaladze in yesterday's run-off elections, has called the municipal elections ‘void,’ and asked his supporters to gather near the parliament this evening to hear the united opposition’s action plan.
Melia claims that the country’s ‘strategic partner’ also agrees that the elections are ‘void.’ However, he refrained from providing more detail.
I personally communicated with our strategic partner…I told them that the elections in this country are void. I also had a similar conversation with them in the past. Believe me, there is no person, Georgian or foreign, a strategic partner or a comrade, who does not share this notion, Melia said.
An interactive map put together by the Agenda.ge team shows the results of the 2021 municipal election run-offs, displaying voter turnout and other various figures, per region and city.
Grigol Gegelia from the opposition Lelo party said that the elections in Georgia have ‘lost sense,’ and the opposition will use all measures against the government, including rallies and international pressure.
The united opposition will gather near the parliament at 7 p.m. to disclose their new action plan.
The official results of the 2021 municipal election run-offs in Georgia show that the GD mayoral candidates have won in 19 municipalities, while the opposition contender has won in just one.
