PM Gakharia: Ministries of Education and Culture ready to be separated

Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia has stated that all technical work has been completed to separate the Ministries of Education and Culture.
Fourteen ministries were reduced to 10 ministries and one state minister office back in 2018 to decrease administrative costs.
Gakharia stated earlier today that Georgian sport and culture ‘deserve to have a separate ministry.’
The Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Culture, Sport and Youth Affairs will function separately,” Gakharia said.
Since 2018 Georgia has had the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports, while the Youth Affairs agency has been under the subordination of the government of Georgia administration.
Georgian media outlets have reported that former Justice Minister, now the ruling Georgian Dream party MP Tea Tsulukiani, may occupy the post of the minister of culture.
The Ministry of Culture of Georgia will again become a separate body and it will be detached from the current Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of Georgia, Deputy Head of Parliament’s Education Committee Nukri Kantaria says. Kantaria told IPN earlier today the decision to merge the ministries of education and culture back in 2018 under Mamuka Bakhtadze’s premiership was “a mistake.”
First Deputy Minister of Culture and Sport of Georgia Mikheil Giorgadze has announced his resignation and stated that he will return to the private sector.
Georgian Prime Minister Mamuka Bakhtadze and Education Minister Mikheil Batiashvili have presented a strategy for Georgian education reform today in Ikalto, in the Kakheti region of eastern Georgia, where one of the first Georgian academies was built in the 11th century. PM Bakhtadze stated that new learning models will be initially implemented in 50 public schools and the number of such schools will increase to 2,000 by the year 2023.
The Government of Georgia is undergoing a major reshuffle, where several ministries will be merged. The changes will be approved at the nearest government meeting after which the new Cabinet will be presented to Parliament for a vote of confidence.
The Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of Georgia has again been divided into two government agencies - the Ministry of Education and Science and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, as it was before former Prime Minister Mamuka Bakhtadze merged the ministries in 2018.
Georgia's former justice minister Thea Tsulukiani has been appointed Minister of Culture, Sport and Youth and will lead the reorganised state body after its separation from the Ministry of Education and Science.
Georgia's newly appointed Minister of Culture, Sport and Youth Thea Tsulukiani has said the institution will look to support production of culture projects promoting "love for homeland and freedom" in young generations.
