Lasha Shukakidze, a lawyer of deceased Besik Tordua accused of raping a Kazakh woman, suspects that Tordua was murdered in prison.

Besik Tordua, accused of raping 26-year-old Kazakh citizen Aisel Aitpaeva, died in Vivamedi hospital on July 15.

The Georgian Prosecutor’s Office charged Tordua on May 8 with the rape of Kazakh citizen which then led to her suicide.

Tordua was taken from penitentiary institution to the intensive care unit earlier in July. He had undergone an emergency surgery as he had a large amount of blood in his head.

Tordua's lawyer Lasha Shukakidze said today the Prosecutor’s Office has refused to grant victim status to the family of Besik Tordua.

Shukakidze also noted that he has already appealed against the decision made by the Prosecutor’s Office.

I’m sure that the Prosecutor’s Office will again refuse to grant a victim status to the deceased Tordua’s family, although I plan to go through all the procedural stages in order to continue the case in the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR)”, said Shukakidze.

Later after the death of Besik Tordua, the penitentiary institution said that the results of brain tomography showed cerebral infarction.
