George Gagnidze to lead season-closing 'Macbeth' at Ópera de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria

The Canary Islands city of Las Palmas will host a performance of Macbeth to close the season of its principal opera house, with baritone George Gagnidze cast in the roster of singers set to lead the bill.

Launching on Tuesday, the three-date bill will see the Georgian joined by soprano Anna Pirozzi. Gagnidze will make his house debut at Ópera de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria with the show.

The singer shared his anticipation to his social media followers ahead of the performance, noting he was "so happy to [become] a part of the tradition of this opera company" in the principal role.

In the rest of the line-up, Marko Mimica is cast as Banquo, with Fabian Lara portraying Macduff, Francisco Corujo in the role of Malcolm, Estefania Perdomo performing as Dama and Ivan Figueira as Sirviente.

The production is set to feature Francesco Ivan Ciampa as the conductor of the Philharmonic Orchestra of the venue, with musical direction also coming from the maestro. Alfonso Romero contributes to the production in his role of stage direction.

The choir of the Canary Friends of the Opera will also be seen in the bill, directed by Olga Santana and featuring pianist Olga Nevalainen for the performance of the Verdi classic.

Around 1,500 visitors are expected to fill the capacity of the Alfredo Craus Auditorium, reduced from the default 2,000 seats for pandemic restrictions.

Macbeth will be on show at the Las Palmas venue on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.
