The Covid-19 response of the Georgian authorities is truly commendable, the World Health Organisation (WHO) Regional Director for Europe Hans Kluge stated after his meeting with Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia earlier today.
Discussions were related to the ‘uninterrupted flow of actions targeted at the national vaccination process’.
It was mentioned during the meeting that a designated task force has been created which is working actively on the timely supply for the vials and to set up infrastructure and logistics of immunisation.

Kluge also mentioned that restrictive measured imposed in Georgia have resulted in declining rates of the infection.
Now the main challenge remains the New Year gatherings. The result of the hard work should not be thrown into the water in the pre-Christmas period. Pandemic outbreaks are observed throughout Europe. Along with the Christmas and New Year greetings, I would like to wish the Georgian people to safely spend these days… We should remember, if I take care of myself, I also protect those around me, because I love them”, said Kluge.
Kluge also stressed the most significant role of COVID hotels, online clinics and the Lugar Lab, which has the strategic importance at the local and international levels.
I believe that the Lugar Lab and the Nacional Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) are working together very effectively against the pandemic. We [WHO and NCDC] have agree on further collaborations, the first of which is digital healthcare and environmental issues”, said Kluge.
Kluge said mental health of the population and protecting them from the virus are the most important issues for the World Health Organisation during the pandemic.
After the pandemic we should have an inclusive and resilient society, which will be able to recover from the post-pandemic crisis”, Kluge stated.
Hans Kluge visited Georgia on December 18 and will leave the country tomorrow.
