The Directorate of Trust Fund for Victims (TFV) of the International Criminal Court (ICC) has started a three-year programme with a budget of €600,000 to support victims of the Georgian-Russian war which took place in August 2008, announced Acting Minister of Justice and a member of the TFV directorate Gocha Lortkipanidze.

The programme will provide assistance to victims of the 2008 war on both sides of the so-called border. The programme provides assistance in medical treatment, psychological rehabilitation of victims and other support.

Georgia is the first European country for which the TFV directorate has implemented a support programme.

The process of assessing the damage of the war to the victims was carried out in 2019-2020 with the close cooperation of the government of Georgia, the victims of the August war and the non-governmental sector.

The decision of the TFV was based on a detailed study of the consequences of the August War…During the consultations, issues were discussed about the type of damage the victims had as a result of the August War and how its consequences affect the current lives of the victims, their safety, and the right to health care,” says the Ministry of Justice.

Based on the study, it was concluded that the victims of the August War still need support in psychological, health and other fields.
