Three leaders leave UNM party, continue activity in civil sector

United National Movement (UNM) party members Zaza Bibilashvili, Nino Kalandadze and Mariam Gersamia have left the party saying that they are going to continue activity in civil society organization, the Cavchavadze Centre.

The society is aware that it has been almost two years till now that we are completely separated from the party. Together with our colleagues, we are focused on the Chavchavadze Centre. The main aim of this centre is to support the fundamental transformation of Georgian society through the dissemination of civic education, critical thinking and individual responsibility”, reads the official statement of the ex- members of UNM.

Ex-members of the UNM party have also announced that they are not going to participate in the 2020 parliamentary elections.

Zaza Bibilashvili and Nino Kalandadze are among the founders of the Chavchavadze Centre, which is named after Ilia Chavchavadze, a prominent Georgian writer and public figure.

The centre aims to foster the development of rational society, one that is well-informed on the issues of national and international politics.

Focused on young people, the centre aims to empower them with the necessary knowledge and skills to become active citizens ready to engage in shaping public opinion and the future of their communities”, reads the official page of Chavchavadze Centre.
