Jury delivers guilty verdict in murder case of ex-colonel Gugeshashvili’s son

Georgian jurors have convicted Zaza Murjikneli for the attempted murder of Georgian ex-colonel Dodo Gugeshashvili and the murder of her son, Grigol Gugeshashvili, on February 7, 2018.

Former Lieutenant Zaza Murjikneli faces 20 years in prison.

Former Colonel of the Georgian Armed Forces and a prominent member of Mkhedrioni (Georgian for cavalry), Dodo Gugeshashvili and her son were attacked by Zaza Murjikneli in Digomi district near their home on February 7. 

Grigol Gugeshashvili was shot dead on the spot, while his mother was hospitalised with heavy injuries.

Shortly after the murder, Dodo Gugeshashvili’s lawyer Gela Nikolaishvili said that Gugeshashvili and her son were attacked by a hired assasin. Neither the lawyer nor Gugeshashvili spoke about the motive of the murder.
