Police detain 4 for attacking Georgian Dream party member

Police have detained four individuals for group violence against Temur Shubitidze, the ruling Georgian Dream party member and an advisor to the chairman of the Marneuli City Council (Sakrebulo).

The Ministry of Internal Affairs reports that the detainees, identified only as D.K., M.J. and Z.SH. are previously convicted individuals.

An investigation found that on September 30 Temur Shubitidze was driving on the Zemo Ponichala-Marneuli highway, when his vehicle was hit by another car on purpose, in which were travelling the above mentioned three individuals and also the fourth detainee, identified only as L.G.

They physically assaulted Temur Shubitidze and managed to flee from the scene.

Shubitidze was hospitalised, where he was diagnosed with multiple fractures of the facial bones and underwent emergency surgery.

The crime is punishable from seven to 10 years of imprisonment.
