The Georgian Parliament has adopted the bill on the Rights of the Disabled People, which aims to create legislative guarantees for individuals with special needs and, accordingly, protect their rights.

The new bill stipulates the introduction of adaptations to suit the needs of people with disabilities gradually over a 15-year period, including old and new buildings in the country.

If the building cannot be adapted for objective (technical) reasons, the state should find alternative ways to ensure full access to the infrastructure for persons with disabilities, reads the bill.

The state also plans to implement personal assistant service, which ensures integration of disabled people into society, for example, to assist an individual in the studying process, to help while searching for a job or any other public activity that is a part of his/her integration process.

Also, the state should recognize Georgian sign language as a means to communicate with deaf people living in Georgia.
