Vehicle customs clearance fees will be postponed until March 2021, said Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia earlier today, noting that 24,000 car owners will benefit from this postponement.
As the [coronavirus] crisis impact [will likely be]...long term, car importers have urged us several times…so customs clearance will be postponed, no fines will be charged at this time,” said Gakharia.
Giorgi Gakharia noted that this change will give over 30 million GEL benefits to car owners.
The electric car factory in Kutaisi, western Georgia, will produce its first electric car in August, said State Representative in Imereti Zviad Shalamberidze, adding that at that time the factory will also start producing additional components for cars.
The Mayor of Tbilisi Kakha Kaladze has initiated to prohibit driving private vehicles on weekends. He said that only public transport, including Metro and buses may be authorized to operate.

The deadline for vehicle customs clearance has been extended until June 1, 2021, announced Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili at today's government meeting. The amendments will apply to vehicles imported to Georgia from October 1, 2019 to May 1, 2020.
