Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili has appointed Tamar Ghvamichava, Doctor of Law and an assistant professor at Tbilisi State University, as a non-judge member in the High Council of Justice, an independent body which is responsible for the appointment of judges and a number of judiciary issues in the country.
Zurabishvili said that being in the 15-member council, ‘which plays a crucial role in the unbiased judiciary,’ is a big responsibility.
I believe that Tamar will contribute much to the council and successful implementation of the undergoing reform in the justice field,” said Zurabishvili.

She stated that Ghvamichava was among 14 candidates who applied for the job and she has ‘won a very transparent competition.’
Ghvamichava thanked the president for the ‘fair competition’ and stated she was ready to do her best in the ‘very responsible position’ during the coming four years.
The president has the right to appoint only one member to the council.
The post became vacant after the resignation of Anna Dolidze last month because of political ambitions to start a party.
Dolidze was appointed to the council by ex-President Giorgi Margvelashvili.
