Solar power systems have been installed in highland villages that are not hooked up to the national electricity grid in Georgia’s eastern Akhmeta municipality.
With the technical support of the USAID Energy Program 25 solar power systems have been installed for permanent resident families in the municipality, including the iconic mountainous region of Tusheti.
Each solar panel will have a 1,500W capacity which is sufficient for a household to use several appliances at the same time.
The government of Georgia will provide 178 permanent resident families of Mtskheta-Mtianeti, Shida Kartli, Samtske-Javakheti, Racha-Lechkhumi, Kvemo Svaneti, Kakheti and Imereti with solar panels until the end of 2020.

Lithuanian-built solar power plants have started operating in three refugee camps in Prezeti, Tsilkani and Tserovani today.
