Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili says that Georgian national basketball team captain Tornike Shengelia’s signing of a contract with Russian basketball club CSKA is ‘regrettable and unacceptable.’
Russia occupies 20 per cent of Georgian territories and continues its creeping occupation of Georgian lands.
Previously Shengelia played for Belgian, US and Spanish clubs.
The Georgian Basketball Federation said "Tornike has always protected the interests of his homeland, no matter which club he belonged to" in their support to the player.
