Farmers in Georgia will have the opportunity to obtain co-financing under a 2 million GEL grant programme offered by the European Union (EU), the Agriculture Ministry of Georgia and the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) for the purchase and installation of modern drip irrigation systems.
At this stage 35 applications have been submitted for the grant competition and won a grant, while the next stage of the competition will be announced later in July. In total 18 million GEL is allocated for the grant competition. The first stage has already come to an end in the beginning of the year during which 2.2 million GEL grant was issued to the farmers.
Among the beneficiaries who received the grant this time are farmers who purchased and installed drip irrigation systems as part of the COVID-19 response programme, in addition to 24 beneficiaries who received about $50,000 in funding to purchase agricultural machinery. Four large-scale initiatives have also received about $150,000 in financing.
