Police have detained two Georgian citizens for domestic violence in the Gori and Kareli municipalities of Shida Kartli region.
The Georgian Interior Ministry reported earlier today that an individual, identified only as G.G. and born in 1982, physically assaulted and threatened to kill his wife, identified only as D.K and born in 1993.
Meanwhile, another individual, identified only as A.K. and born in 1940, was detained for physically assaulting his grandchild, identified only as M.K. and born in 2006.
Reportedly, the child spoke of the assault with the social worker, while the latter informed police.
The crime is punishable by three years in prison.
Georgia made the punishment for certain forms of domestic violence more severe in 2018. A total of 4,564 individuals were charged for domestic violence and crimes throughout Georgia in 2019.
