The Human Rights and Monitoring Center (EMC) has appealed the decision to build a hydro power plant in Guria in Tbilisi City Court.

Hydro power plant Bakhvi 2 is scheduled to be built on the river Bakhvistskali, in Ozurgeti.

EMC says that not all factors influencing the physical and social environment have been researched and claims that the impact of the HPP on the ecosystem of the resort Bakhmaro and the population of the nearby villages has not been fully investigated.

Per the project the HPP will be built just 6,570 meters away from Bakhmaro resort, while it will be around 3,000 meters from the villages of Ukanava and Vakijvari.

EMC says that the Ministry of Environmental Protection decided to build a power plant on April 23, 2020, when the state of emergency in the country had already been announced.

The project is being implemented by Bakhvi 2, a company founded by Georgian Hydro Power.
